Captain Don Sauer has been working on the water most of his adult life. He started fishing Hatteras recreationally nearly 30 years ago, gradually started working as a commercial mate and later as captain. After several years working for charter boat owners he decided to buy his own vessel. In September of 2002 he purchased Fin Quest and has been fishing her ever since.
Don, his wife Amanda, daughter Marion and son Alexander reside in Buxton. They are always open to new and exciting adventures on the water and because of this have expanded the possibilities of what Fin Quest has to offer. They not only offer offshore Gulf Stream fishing, but now take free-divers to wrecks, bottom fish and fish overnight.
In July of 2003 free-divers from the Bluewater Open Free-diving Tournament chartered Fin Quest for their event. Don was delighted to discover yet another new adventure at sea. Since that first trip, he has not only remained active in the Bluewater Open each year, but he has helped raise money for the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation by selling the catches from the tournament.
